Composite and Even Numbers – The Basic Properties of Numbers

by David H. Rodriguez

We deal with numbers daily. From the beginning of their academic careers, students are taught about numbers. The fundamentals of mathematics are numbers. There are numbers all over the place. From checking the time to keeping track of the team’s score in sports. There are numbers everywhere. Undefined numbers exist, or one could say they are endless. Many numbers have certain properties. Even numbers and composite numbers are such characteristics linked with numbers. As it is a relatively common number property. In this post, we’ll look at the even number and composite numbers. It will make it easier for students to understand the subject.

Even numbers: All the numbers can be divided into two parts. One part is even and the other one is odd. Even numbers are those numbers that are divisible by two and leave zero as the remainder. Any number that is not divisible by two or leaves remainder when divided by two is odd. A general property of an even number is that it can be divided into two equal parts. Two is considered, as the smallest even number. One more property of even numbers is that the sum of two even numbers is always an even number.

Composite numbers: Numbers are a common part of not only for students but for everyone. Numbers show many properties related to them. One such property is composite numbers. Composite numbers can be defined as the number that has a minimum of three factors. It is necessary to understand what factor is to understand composite numbers easily. We all must have performed the operation division. Factors are related to it only.  Factor can be defined as a number that divides any other number and does not leave remainder or factor is a number that we get when a number completely divides another number and the remainder is zero. A prime number has only two factors as they are the numbers that are divided by themselves and the other number is one.

If a number is having more than two factors then the number is composite. We can also say a number that is divisible completely by at least three numbers is considered a composite number. Based on the number of factors, numbers are classified into two categories they are prime numbers and composite numbers. A composite number is a positive number, that is formed after two smaller integers that are positive is multiplied. Let us discuss a few of the properties of composite numbers.

Pick any number of composite numbers and one will find that all of them are evenly divisible by smaller numbers which may be a prime number or a composite number. Composite numbers can be further divided into even composite and odd composite numbers. Numbers that are composite as well as even fall into the category of even composite numbers. Four is the smallest composite number known to us. Two is the only number that is even but is not a composite number. Numbers that are composite, as well as odd, are considered odd composite numbers.

In the above article, we have tried to explain every aspect of even numbers and composite numbers. These topics are the basics of mathematics. Children are taught all these topics in the early stages of their academics. It may happen that few of the students might not have a clear concept of these topics. In such a case, it is important for them to clear all their doubts. As both, the topics are very crucial and many students may face difficulty in their upcoming careers.
